Almost 20 startups have been nominated for Expo 2020 Dubai through the PITB developed Startup Punjab portal, Punjab Minister for Higher Education & IT Raja Yassir Humayun publicized.
The statement was publicized during a press conference at the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR) about the membership of startups from Punjab in the Expo 2020 Dubai. The event was also attended by Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Azfar Manzoor and PITB DG e-Governance Sajid Latif.
“All these startups have been selected transparently with respect to their startup domain, growth, revenue, potential impact in the industry, and investment readiness. The presentation skills and strength of the teams in terms of talent and skills were also taken into consideration,” the minister informed.

Expo 2020 Dubai that began on October 1 is being conducted for six months and will end on March 31, 2022.
While briefing the media, the minister stated, “Punjab government has introduced an online platform, Startup Punjab, developed by PITB. The portal aims at bridging the disconnect between Pakistani startups and international stakeholders under the vision of ‘Invest in Punjab, Buy from Punjab and Work for Punjab.”
The authorized startups will depict their products at Expo 2020 Dubai from November 16th to 28th in different groups.
Moreover, Startup Punjab is a drive to bond startups, stakeholders, customers, and talent from Punjab with potential international stakeholders.
Sardar Usman Buzdar, Punjab Chief Minister, will be launching the portal in the coming days.
The startups’ registration started on September 30, 2021, and out of the 311 applications, 20 were accepted by experts on the basis of the marketability of ideas and products, and services.
Furthermore, other activities include the launch of Startup Punjab Portal, Startup Exhibition & Startup Moot, Panel Discussions on Startup Ecosystem, MOU signing with Dubai based organizations for aiding startups in Punjab, South Asia’s New Hub of ICT – Punjab, Pakistan, and a session on ‘Showcasing Strengths & Opportunities in ICT Sector of Punjab.’
Besides this, the main purpose of “Startup Punjab” is to increase the ICT industry nationally and increase the impression of Pakistan on the global entrepreneurship landscape.
