The city district government identified eight more areas to be sealed in Rawalpindi due to violation of SOPs & to stop the spread of coronavirus.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Capt (R) Anwar Ul Haq had written a letter to Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Government of Punjab, for the imposition of section 144 (06) regarding smart lockdown in the areas identified as the hotspots of Covid-19 in district Rawalpindi.
Areas to be sealed in Rawalpindi
Lockdown has imposed in 22 localities but district administration is now planning to impose lockdown in more areas. The areas identified as hotspots of coronavirus included Gulzar e Quaid, Khayaban e Sir Syed, Dhoke Ali Akbar, KothaKallan, Morgah, TakhtPari, Narankari Bazaar and Bara Market.
Zaheer Jappa the Additional Deputy Commissioner General said that two main markets were a serious threat for a spread COVID-19 in Rawalpindi. After imposing lockdown in 22 localities of Rawalpindi, the number of cases has decreased and it is being believed that by imposing lockdown in these other sealed areas, the spread of coronavirus will stop as the administration has found many other hotspots from where coronavirus patients were being reported.
It was fixed mandatory to wear face masks and traders had to ensure the availability of sanitizers in their shops and to not allow more than two persons to enter inside.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Zaheer Jappa said, “Despite clear directions from the district administration, SOPs are not being followed in the markets and bazaars. People failed to maintain social distancing while traders too did not make any effort to implement the SOPs.”
“The government had been creating awareness among the people to adopt safety measures in public places and also held dozens of meetings with traders to urge them to follow the SOPs.” said the additional deputy commissioner.
