Pakistan Railways to Set Up Electric Vehicle Charging Stations on Its Land

Keeping in view the future needs, Pakistan Railways has decided to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on its land.

The invention of electric vehicles is an important cause to lessen the dependency on petrol. In Pakistan too, it is likely that in coming years, there would be a lot of electric vehicles on the roads.

Electric vehicles are to be charged after running a few hundred kilometers and the impending rise in the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) across the country will require a high number of charging stations. The establishment of vehicle charging stations in the country will be one of the most profitable sectors in the near future.

The ministry of science and technology and Pakistan State Oil are already taking action in this regard. It is proposed that the property of the railway, including land and railway stations may be utilized for establishing the electric charging stations. These charging stations will be the big source of income for the Pakistan Railways. There are hundreds of railway stations all over the country.

Pakistan Railways has invited applications from those, desirous of establishing electric charging stations at its property. Moreover, the proposals have also been invited to the points where these stations could be established. In this regard, more than a hundred places, including Karachi Cantt Stations and City Railway station have been suggested.

The rent of the points, used for these charging stations will be decided later after the consultation with the desirous companies and according to the market value.

The charging infrastructure refers to a country’s ability to accommodate the electric vehicles on the roads.

There are three types of charging electric vehicles. One is rapid charging which takes only 20 to 30 minutes to fully charge the vehicle. The other type is fast charging in which 3 to 4 hours are involved for a vehicle to be fully charged and the third type of charging is slow charging which takes 8 to 12 hours for a vehicle to be fully charged.
