The government announced the campaign for senior citizens over 65 years old, but only 180,000 senior citizens have registered themselves for the vaccination against covid-19.
Unfortunately, more than half of the population of Pakistan is against having the vaccine. Only 2.25 percent of senior citizens have registered themselves. Although the government is trying its best to inoculate everyone to prevent the country from the virus as the UK strain has already been confirmed to be spread in the country.
As per the remarks of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS), they termed this situation a slow process and slow response. It said that there are around 8 million people above the age of 65 and yet only a few of them got registered so far.
The government started this campaign on 15th February that was announced by Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health. He announced, “All Pakistanis above the age of 65 can start registering for Covid-19 vaccine starting today. Send an SMS from any mobile phone with your CNIC to 1166 or visit nims.nadra.gov.pk to get registered. Vaccine center and date of appointment be communicated once vaccine arrives,”

Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives also announced regarding this campaign that it would start in the very first week of March.
An official of the Ministry of NHS said that we urged people to get registered for the vaccination so that they may be inoculated after the vaccine would reach the Adult Vaccination Centers (AVCs) in the country. He added that registration was started 2 weeks back but only a few 180,000 people registered themselves, he termed it to be a negative response.
Moreover, Pakistan will have 17.1 million doses by the end of June 2021, and AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered to senior citizens.
