Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued the Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) regulations and now it has started receiving applications for mobile device manufacturing.
On Wednesday, PTA in a statement said that it has issued the Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) regulations. It said that the authority’s Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DRIBS) was implemented in 2019 that resulted in a noteworthy increase in legal import of mobile devices and more than 33 local assembly plants of mobile devices were established in the country.
It further said that more than 25 million mobile devices were produced by these plants that include 4G smartphones since the implementation of the system. It added that with the successful execution of DRIBS, the local assembly industry had evolved from infancy to a growing stage with a growth in the local assembly of smartphones.

Only 119,639 smartphones were assembled locally in 2019 and such devices’ number grew to 2.1 million in 2020. It will not be out of place to mention here that 1.21 million smartphones were assembled in February 2021.
PTA highlighted the remarkable impact of DRIBS that the government introduced a comprehensive Mobile Manufacturing Policy in order to attract and encourage the country’s manufacturers and to establish their plants. Moreover, the Authority has started receiving applications for mobile device manufacturing.
PTA took o Twitter and posted in this regard, “PTA has issued Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Regulations and has started receiving mobile device manufacturing applications. This initiative will help create more jobs in this technical sector, as well as enable consumers to buy locally manufactured mobile devices.”

This initiative will be helpful in generating more jobs in this technical sector, also will enable consumers to buy locally manufactured mobile devices. It said that the system has the capability to identify all IMEIa latched on the country’s mobile networks and to categorize them based on their compliant status.
