Due to the increase in coronavirus cases in Punjab, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) has banned co-curricular activities in 7 districts of the province.
On Monday, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) suspended co-curricular activities in seven districts. According to a SED notification, “No co-curricular activity shall be conducted in those districts where Covid-19 positivity ratio is more than 20 cases.” Those 7 districts include Lahore, Gujrat, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad.
Moreover, the department directed the school administrations in order to make sure the implementation of covid Standard Operating Procedures in letter and spirit. In this regard, Murad Raas, Punjab Education Minister shared the notification on Twitter and announced the ban on all such activities. “Restrictions on co-curricular activities in the 7 Districts stated in the notification due to Covid-19. No Gala, sports activities or public gatherings,” the minister said.
Punjab Education Minister previously on 26th February notified that schools in these 7 districts would follow alternate day rules until 1st April as covid cases were being increased there. He added that regular classes would go on normally in other districts and the situation in this regard would be reviewed further on 31st March.

Whereas, Shafqat Mahmood, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training announced that all schools would have to resume regular 5-day classes on 1st March.
Currently, the coronavirus’s case ratio has surpassed 18,000 in the country. As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), a big number of people have lost their lives due to coronavirus pandemic outbreaks. It added that in the past 24 hours, more than 20 people died and now the death toll has reached 13,227.
Daily tests are being carried out across the country and around 34,347 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, out of which 1,592 resulted positive.
