Earlier, Pakistan launched the locally produced single-dose PakVac COVID-19 vaccine under the supervision of Chinese experts, however, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) announced to produce its own coronavirus vaccine.
According to Dr Tahir Yaqub, a professor at UVAS, Pakistan will soon be able to produce its own coronavirus vaccine. The university has conducted an experiment in this regard, stated Dr Tahir, adding that a rabbit has been injected with the coronavirus vaccine.
“We are waiting for the results of the first vaccine. The second experiment will be carried out on a monkey,” he said.
As per the report, the UVAS had launched the initiative to formulate Pakistan’s own coronavirus vaccine. The UAVS officials gave a presentation in this regard to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, who had agreed to allocate a fund of Rs 100 million for the preparation of the COVID vaccine.
The Director of the UVAS, Dr Tahir said, “We have sought a time period of six months to prepare the vaccine,” she added that the university had all necessary arrangements needed for its preparation.
While speaking to the media, he said Pakistan will be able to produce its own coronavirus vaccine very soon.
Government to start using second batch of PakVac from tomorrow
The National Institute of Health (NIH) has handed over the second batch of PakVac corona vaccine to the federal government.
According to reports, the second shipment of the vaccine contains 1,91,000 doses.
Pakistani specialists have developed a second batch of PakVac, which is based on the formula of a single-dose Chinese vaccine called Cansino, according to individuals familiar with the situation. “The first batch was previously made under the supervision of Chinese experts,” they explained.
Pakistan was provided the raw material for the vaccine production by the Chinese company and it currently have sufficient material to prepare 0.9 million doses of PakVac.
