Second spell of heavy winter rain expected from tomorrow

Several regions of Pakistan are expected to receive a second spell of winter rain between January 4 (Tuesday) and January 6 (Thursday), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said Monday.

A strong westerly weather system is likely to enter the country via Balochistan on December 31st, said PMD Thursday.

The new rain-bearing system will unleash its fury mainly in Balochistan, said Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, adding that the weather system could also cause rains in the northern parts of the country.

Karachi’s cold weather deepens due to more winter rain

Karachi’s temperature declined further Monday morning as the city received more winter rain, which was already predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum rainfall of 5 mm was noted in Qaidaba and Gulshan-e-Hadid, 4.5 mm in Surjani Town, Kemari, and PAF Masroor Base 4.0 mm, University Road 3.8 mm, while 3.4 mm rain was noted at the airport.

Moreover, the other parts of the city that greeted light rain comprise the Old City Area with 3.0 mm of rain, PAF Faisal Base recorded 2.0 mm, as well as the Jamia Al-Rasheed area which received 2.6 mm of rain.

Light rain was recorded in Burns Road, Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, and Nazimabad. The areas of Kharadar, Malir, Model Colony, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Clifton, DHA with other areas also reported light rain.

Meanwhile, the Motorways representative warned drivers on the M-9 motorway to drive slowly to evade their automobiles from sliding and causing accidents.
