Punjab govt makes record recruitment of doctors during last 3.5 years

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid said the Punjab Health Department made record recruitment of doctors in Punjab intending to provide the best medical facilities to the people of the province. 

The minister made the views during a meeting with Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Chairman General (retd) Malik Zafar Iqbal. 

Specialized Health Care and Medical Education (SH&ME) Special Secretary Dr. Farrukh Naveed and other PPSC officers were also present. 

 Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Malik Zafar Iqbal discussed the recruitment of doctors in the hospital of the province. The PPSC gave a detailed briefing to Health Minister regarding the process of recruitment of doctors through PPSC.

She told the meeting that during the last three and a half years, over 50,000 doctors, nurses and paramedical staff had been employed in the Punjab Health department on 100 percent merits, continuing that without filling the vacancies of doctors in the public hospitals of Punjab, better treatment of patients could not be achieved. 

She said, “We are also making it easier in the service structure for the promotion of doctors”. The Punjab Health department had recruited such a large number of anesthesthetics for the first time, the health minister added. 

During the meeting, PPSC Chairman directed the relevant officers to complete the recruitment process at the earliest possible time for the recruitment of doctors in the Punjab Health department. 

Moreover, Punjab Health Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch conducted a comprehensive review of the dengue preventive measures in Punjab. 

The secretary stated that the dengue situation was being closely examined, adding that the number of beds in public hospitals in Lahore and Rawalpindi was being increased for dengue patients. 

For this purpose, competent doctors would be recruited for intensive care units in the government hospitals of Punjab, Sikandar Baloch said. For the treatment of dengue patients, medicines were available in abundance. He stated that the capacity of labs was being increased for conducting dengue diagnosis tests. 

Special Secretary Dr. Farrukh Naveed, medical superintendents of all teaching hospitals, and other officers also attended the meeting.
