The army chief General Syed Asim Munir, has vowed to bring to justice all those involved in the vandalism that occurred on May 9 in various cities of Pakistan. During his visit to the Corps Headquarters Peshawar, he addressed the officers and stated that the armed forces would not tolerate any further violation of its installations or vandalism. He further emphasised the evolving threats to national security and reiterated that there would be no room for spoilers in the process of ensuring peace and stability in the country.
The army chief received a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation and the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. He praised the professional competence, performance, and achievements of the law enforcement agencies in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
General Munir also highlighted the challenges of information warfare and the efforts being made to create misperceptions. He pledged that any nefarious attempts to target the armed forces by inimical elements would be foiled with the support of the people of Pakistan.

The army chief’s visit came after rioters ran amok in various cities of the country, vandalising installations of security forces. PTI supporters had attacked and caused damage to the historic Corps’ Commander’s House, along with other military installations, including attacking the GHQ building in Rawalpindi, hours after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case on May 9.
During his visit, General Munir was also sensitised about the challenges posed by information warfare and the efforts being made to create misperceptions. He pledged that any nefarious attempts to target the armed forces by inimical elements would be foiled with the support of the people of Pakistan.
The army chief’s visit comes in the wake of Imran Khan’s “unlawful arrest” and subsequent protests by party activists and supporters, during which they clashed with law enforcement agencies. An FIR was later registered against leaders and activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for attacking and damaging state properties and installations.
