A young girl lost her life and seven others, including a teacher and female students, were injured when a police officer stationed outside a school in Swat district opened fire on them, according to local authorities.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur confirmed that the constable responsible for the shooting, identified as Alam Khan, was immediately apprehended, and a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him. The incident prompted the formation of a special investigation team to conduct further inquiries. DPO Gandapur assured the media that the culprit would face severe legal consequences for his actions.
The accused constable, a resident of Salampur, had previously been suspended from the police force on two occasions. However, he was reinstated last year and assigned to guard the school approximately three months ago.
The injured victims were promptly transported to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital, where an emergency situation was declared to ensure their immediate medical care.

A survivor among the wounded students, currently receiving treatment at the hospital, recounted the horrific incident to Dawn.com. She stated that the suspect indiscriminately opened fire on their van as it exited the school premises. “The children in the van became terrified and began screaming, attracting the attention of people nearby,” she added.
Following the distressing event, the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, took notice of the incident and visited the injured children along with Malakand Regional Police Officer Nasir Mehmood Dasti, DPO Gandapur, and Swat Deputy Commissioner Ifranullah Wazir.
In response to the shooting, the Swat police issued a statement affirming that the Regional Police Officer of Malakand had instructed hospital authorities to ensure the injured girls receive the best possible medical treatment.
