On the cusp of the 100th anniversary of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans event set to take place on June 10-11, Toyota is generating anticipation for the potential unveiling of its latest GR-tuned prius model.
Toyota Gazoo Racing hinted at the debut of an intriguing concept car, which incorporates advanced vehicle technologies, born from enduring the rigors of various motorsport challenges. A sneak peek was provided via a teaser image showcasing the vehicle’s front apron, including four fog lamps flanking a substantial central intake. The image harks back to the GR010 Hybrid endurance racer’s headlamps.
Although Toyota has kept the identity of the car under wraps, certain features of the front bumper, including the towing point covers and upper intake slit, bear an uncanny resemblance to the fifth-generation Prius. It sparks a speculation that the concept car could be a high-performance GR Prius.
Toyota’s GR Sports range, launched in 2017, already includes the plug-in hybrid Prius PHV GR Sport, upgraded with cosmetic enhancements, suspension tweaks, and chassis modifications. The most formidable iteration of the Prius is equipped with a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain, boasting a substantial 223 PS (220 hp or 164 kW).

If given the comprehensive GR treatment, the Prius could see a notable power boost and a more sporty aesthetic, adding to an already compelling lineup that includes the GR Supra, Yaris, Corolla, and 86. As the anticipation builds, fans eagerly await next month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans to confirm whether the new GR offering is indeed a reimagined Prius.
