In a significant display of solidarity and shared responsibility, Pakistan and Switzerland have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in disaster management. The agreement, signed by Switzerland’s Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, signifies the joint efforts of both nations to address the challenges posed by natural disasters.
During the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to receive Switzerland’s cooperation in establishing an efficient warning system and implementing measures to safeguard the country from the wrath of natural calamities. Emphasizing that Pakistan has made no contributions to climate change, he highlighted the need for international assistance in bolstering disaster resilience.
Characterizing the negotiations with the Swiss Foreign Minister as fruitful and productive, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s desire to foster cooperation with Switzerland in diverse areas such as tourism and education. He drew inspiration from the Swiss Foreign Minister’s statement, wherein Switzerland pledged to play a supportive and catalytic role in promoting peace discussions in the region.
The Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan is committed to living in peace and striving for prosperity and progress. He underscored the importance of investments in the population to alleviate poverty and unemployment, with a focus on promoting industries, information technology, and agriculture. However, he emphasized that true progress requires introspection and efforts from both sides, as it takes two to tango.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister asserted that the region cannot afford tensions and the wastage of resources on wars, which have proven futile in the past. Pakistan firmly believes that dedicating resources to development is the path forward, and he expressed hope that the leadership on the other side shares this perspective.
Underscoring the significance of resolving all disputes, including the longstanding issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister emphasized that lasting peace in the region hinges on finding amicable solutions.

He emphasized that it is a global responsibility that necessitates unity and collective action.
