A poem on the dismal situation of Karachi by prominent Pakistani writer Anwar Maqsood is going viral after the Karachi rain situation that made citizens’ lives miserable.
Karachi is going through a terrible rough condition where the torrential rain floods have shattered century old record, even the defense areas of the city are sunk and the rainwater is stagnant on the main city roads. Many poor’s houses have been destroyed and at least 47 have been found dead.
Many areas of the city, such as Defense, Clifton, Surjani Town, and others remain submerged even after three days of no rain. Defense Housing Authority’s Ittihad Commercial Area remains flooded, while in Naya Nazimabad, people were reported to have used boats to move from one area to another. Several areas of Clifton and PECHS also remain submerged with some underpasses still awaiting drainage of water.

Karachi the biggest city of Pakistan faces terrible conditions and heavy rain is destroying the whole city because the city has no proper planning to tackle such conditions. The city, where the metropolis’ main arteries remained submerged in water and its residents deprived of power for over 50 hours, hasn’t changed much over the years.
In the video clip, Anwar delves into a poem, penned by renowned Urdu literary figure Zehra Nigah about how even wild beasts in jungles have a system whereby they care for each other and look out for one another when calamities and dangers strike them. The poem paints a vivid picture of how even lions stop hunting when they’ve had enough and birds look after each other’s nests when their eggs are about to fall.
The verses of the poem convey that even forest has rules to tackle situations and there is a system that enables life to go on but Karachi is deprived of even the “law of the jungle” where chaos may seem to be the order of the day.
