Befiler, an online tax filing portal, has obtained grant for a digital experiment from Karandaaz Pakistan, a not-for-profit company stimulating approach to finance for SMEs & financial inclusion for individuals, from a competitive application process.
The subsidy has been presented with the aim to promote tax obedience in Pakistan through digitization of the tax filing process, particularly boosting women’s participation in financial and tax matters.
As per the statement released by the startup, the funds will be specially used to stimulate tax filing amongst functioning women so that they could digitally file their tax returns and tackle other businesses thereby.

“This will decrease women’s reliance on male family members for in-person meetings with consultants for legal and tax matters,” the statement read.
Only 7% of women in Pakistan are economically included in digital financial services as compared to 20% of men and welcoming the new idea remains a challenge.
Moreover, the user of startup stats discloses that though female workers are only 5% of total users, their transformation rate from sign up on Befiler to fruitful tax filing is more than dual compared to their male complements.
“This demonstrates that women are more serious about financial and tax matters in comparison to males,” it said.
It further stated that from this grant, the platform devises to test out interferences particularly intended to inspire more women to develop active tax filers from Befiler’s user-friendly mobile app and results of communication using A/B testing.
Talking on the event, Befiler Pakistan CEO Akbar Tejani said, “Befiler aims to directly target women for tax filing in hopes to have a higher involvement from them in finance and tax matters.”
“Through this exercise, we hope to give rise to opportunities for women to experience focused and directed marketing encouraging them to engage in the tax filing process,” he said, sharing the vision of his startup.
