Rendering to a report issued from the PM Office, the NSP was officially approved in the 36th meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) under the chairmanship of the prime minister.

Mooed Yusuf, the National Security Advisor (NSA) presenting the NSP for sanction, emphasized that Pakistan was moving to a “Comprehensive National Security Framework”.

Under the framework, the final drive of national security would be to ensure the security, safety, and dignity of the resident of Pakistan, the NSA said.

“To ensure this citizen-centric approach to security, the National Security Policy put economic security at the core. A stronger economy would create additional resources that would, in turn, be judiciously distributed to further bolster military and human security,” the NSA said.

Moreover, the NSA declared to the members that the NSP had been generated via a “whole-of-government effort over the last seven years”, and incorporated widespread discussions among federal government institutions, accompanied by all provinces, and with the academia and private sector.

Meanwhile, PM Imran Khan emphasized that the safety of Pakistan lies in the security of its people and reposed trust that Pakistan is well prepared to handle any internal and external threats.

Calling the NSP’s preparation and endorsement a historic moment, the prime minister declared that the Policy must lead all organs of the government to safeguard that their struggles are harmonized with the overall commands of the NSP.

“The NSP will now be presented to the Cabinet before being officially adopted. A public version of the document will be released in due course,” the statement added.
