The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has opened the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance, presenting graduates from developing nations an extraordinary opportunity to attain their Master’s degree from reputable German higher education institutions.
The program is designed to boost the advancement of disciplines that are fundamentally crucial for social, political, and economic progress in the students’ home countries.
The DAAD scholarship offers a comprehensive package of benefits for successful applicants under the Helmut-Schmidt-Programme. These include:
- Full tuition waivers.
- A monthly stipend of 934 € (approximately Rs. 285,446).
- Health insurance coverage in Germany.
- A travel allowance.
- Financial support for study and research.
- Rent subsidies and additional allowances for spouses and children, if applicable.
- A compulsory 6-month German language course to bolster language proficiency.
Applicants are expected to meet specific eligibility criteria for consideration:

- Practical experience in relevant fields, demonstrated through professional work, internships, or political and social engagement.

Each Master’s course has unique selection criteria, which applicants must meet in addition to the DAAD’s prerequisites.
For applications to the DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Program:
- Application process commences on 1 June 2023.
- Choose the Master’s course you wish to undertake from the list of participating programs.
- Apply directly to the respective universities offering your chosen course, indicating your interest in the DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme. DAAD should not be the recipient of your application. The application period spans from 1 June to 31 July 2023.
