The former Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Health, Dr Zafar Mirza has been appointed as the World Health Organization (WHO) advisor on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Benefit of Pakistan.
The appointment comes almost two months after his resignation as the Special Assistant on Health. Dr. Zafar Mirza while leaving the Federal Minister for Health tweeted and said that he is resigning because ‘negative discussion about the role of SAPMs & criticism on the government.’

Dr. Faisal Sultan replaced Dr. Zafar Mirza after the departure from the Health Ministry. However, the former WHO member remained active on social media, as he kept sharing his experience during the battle with the coronavirus pandemic.
While leaving, the government of Pakistan appreciated his effort, hard work, dedication, and contributions to the national COVID-19 response in the time when the pandemic was getting peaked.
Dr. Zafar Mirza Professional Background
Dr. Zafar Mirza who was working with the World Health Organization (WHO) left the organization after receiving Prime Minister Imran Khan personal invitation to join his team.
Before getting appointed as a health minister, Zafar Mirza was linked with the World Health Organization as the Director of Healthcare System Development at its regional office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Dr. Zafar Mirza also operated in the WHO Regional Office as a Regional Advisor for the Essential Medicines and Pharmaceutical Policies.
