ECC approves Rs 20 billion to purchase 10 million vaccine doses

The meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) which was specially called on Monday approved a technical supplementary grant of Rs 20 billion for the procurement of 10 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine next month.

The amount will be used for the purchase of 10 million doses of the anti-Coronavirus vaccine during the month of June 2021. The Ministry of National Health Services and Provincial Health Departments will administer the vaccination. 

According to the sources of the Ministry of Finance, the need for an additional amount for the same purpose will be reviewed during the next fiscal year and the additional funds will be provided accordingly. It is expected that around five million vaccines will be received in Pakistan next month.

At the beginning of June, 3.5 million doses of the Sinovac, Sinopharm, and CanSino vaccine are likely to reach the country. 

PIA plane lands in Islamabad with 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses

A PIA plane on Tuesday landed with 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses in Islamabad from China.

According to well-informed sources, a consignment of 500,000 Sinovac vaccine arrived in Pakistan yesterday. Two consignments of Covid vaccines from COVAX including Oxford AstraZeneca and Pfizer also reached Pakistan.

These doses were shifted to Federal Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) from where they will be given to various vaccination centers.

The efforts of the government for the achievement of the corona vaccine are highly appreciable and Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives has said that it is the intention of the government to vaccinate the majority of the people in the country before Eid ul Azha so that the strict measures as were taken on the eve of Eid ul Fitr could be avoided and people may move freely to a greater extent.
