In a move set to broaden the access to education, the Federal Government of Pakistan has given the green light for scholarships targeting students from Indian Occupied Kashmir. This initiative is part of the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) slated for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Initiated back in May 2019, this ongoing initiative’s mission is to broaden educational prospects for students hailing from the troubled region.
Following the Prime Minister’s mandate, a total of 1,600 scholarships will be distributed to deserving students from Indian Occupied Kashmir. The government has earmarked a total of Rs. 2.054 billion for this scholarship program, with a projected spending of Rs. 1.07 billion by June 30, 2023.
Furthermore, an amount of Rs. 984.225 million is expected to be carried forward from the prior allocation, to sustain the program beyond June 2023.
As per the official document, the proposed budget allocation for this scholarship initiative in the 2023-24 PSDP is Rs. 200 million.

The scholarships are viewed as a powerful tool to empower students from Indian Occupied Kashmir to pursue higher education. They are designed not only to stimulate personal growth but also to promote the development of their communities.
By eliminating financial constraints, these scholarships aim to foster a more inclusive and equitable educational landscape.
