Prime Minister Imran Khan says the government will prioritize job formation and developmental projects for the 2020-2021 budget, which will be presented today in National Assembly.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the government would give priority to job creation and developmental projects while reducing non-development expenditure for the 2020 and 2021 budget. The provincial Chief Ministers Mehmood Khan and Usman Buzdar with their economic teams had an online video session where they shared their priorities concerning expenditure, revenues, and overall budget.
Several federal and provincial ministers attended the meeting including Shibli Faraz the Minister for Information, Production Hammad Azhar the Federal Minister of Industries, and Asad Umar the Minister of Planning Development, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Imran Khan said that the budget for the next financial year is being presented under extraordinary circumstances due to the pandemic and the government’s first priority is the promotion of sectors that are unfavorably affected by the pandemic coronavirus. Furthermore, he said that it is highly important to generate job opportunities to the areas which are most affected by the pandemic, “Special attention should be paid to the development of industrial and agriculture sector and the projects under public-private partnership should be facilitated,”
Also, the provincial government must focus on reducing needless government expenditures.
Moreover, the Prime Minister in the meeting was told of special economic zones, strategies for implementing the government’s priorities, and expenditure and ground realities of the budget for the next fiscal year, budget priorities for agriculture development, and keeping in view the status of revenue generated.
