The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has succeeded to discover new oil and gas reserves from wells in districts Ghotki and Tando Allah Yar of Sindh and Rajanpur city of Punjab, which according to the company, will be beneficial in overcoming the energy crisis in the country.
The notification issued by OGDCL said that the gas reserves discovered amount to 2.081 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSC/D).
The oil exploratory company said the joint venture of Nim Block comprising OGDCL as operator with 95% stake and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with the remaining 5% stake discovered oil and gas from the exploratory well Nim East1 located in district Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.
In a separate notice, OGDCL, being the operator of Kalchas Exploration Licence (operator, 50%) along with Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL, 50%) as joint venture partner, announced gas discovery at Kaleri Shum-01 well located in Rajanpur (Tribal area), Punjab.
Earlier on June 16, OGDCL had discovered gas reserves from an exploratory well located in Sindh’s Ghotki district.
“On May 9, a well Umair South East # 01, located in district Ghotki of Sindh was spudded as an exploratory well to test the hydrocarbon potential of Pirkoh Formation and Habib Rahi Limestone (HRL) to a planned depth of ±785m into HRL,” a statement issued from OGDCL.
The statement from OGDCL further stated that the well was drilled down to 790meter into HRL. “Based on the results of wireline logs interpretation, successful Drill Stem Test-1 in HRL has tested 1.063 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) gas through choke size 32/64″ at Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 210 Pounds per Square Inch (PSi),” the company’s statement added.

The company further stated that it was the Joint Venture of Guddu Block including OGDCL as the operator (70%), IPRTOC (11.5%), SEPL (13.5%), and GHPL (5%).
Moreover, the oil and gas company called the latest discovery of gas reserves an important addition to the energy sector of the country to overwhelm the energy crisis and said that the discovery of gas reserves was the outcome of the aggressive exploration strategy adopted by the Guddu Joint Venture Partners.
“It has opened a new avenue and will positively contribute to mitigating energy demand and supply gap from indigenous resources and will add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL and the country,” said OGDCL.
Luckily, the development has come at a good time for Pakistan which is facing massive power load-shedding and has been crippled by gas shortage recently.
Meanwhile, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) also discovered a gas reserve at Bannu West-1 ST-1 Exploration Well drilled in Bannu West Block, located in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
