Pakistan to build 17 Intelligence Bureau offices along CPEC route

For the enhancement of the security of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan will pursue Chinese funding to construct the 17 regional offices for Intelligence Bureau (IB) beside the corridor route.

According to the official sources, the complete projected cost of the project is Rs 2126.864 million and the government will look for Chinese aid in this regard. The project is aimed at constructing offices and residential housing for IB staff posted along the CPEC route. 

Overall 17 sub-projects for the IB will be implemented under the main PC-I. In addition to the building of 14 regional offices/residential buildings alongside the route of CPEC at various places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Punjab, Balochistan, modernization of anti-terrorist teaching school at simply, provision of fabrication and placing of furniture/ furnishing items for IB Academy Training block/ girls hostel& new hostel 3rd floor at H-11/1, and building of suburban flats /officer hostel for IB Academy at H-11/1, Islamabad is also included in the project.

Meanwhile, a concept clearance “Construction of Intelligence Bureau Offices with Chinese Assistance,” has previously been cleaned by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), and now discussions with the Chinese side will soon take place, the source said.

The PML(N) government back in 2016 approved the construction of IB offices along the routes of CPEC with estimated cost of Rs 482.883 million.

Punjab home department has deployed 11,225 security personnel in the province for protecting Chinese nationals working on different projects.

These security personnel from army, Rangers, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Special Branch representatives, police, departmental security, PS GS were deployed for the protection of 3355 Chinese nationals working on CPEC projects and non-CPEC projects

4,136 security personnel from army, Rangers, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Special Branch representatives, police, departmental security are providing security to Chinese nationals working on CPEC projects while 7,122 security personnel were deployed to provide security to 2266 Chinese nationals working on non-CPEC projects.
