Head of the ENT Department of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Professor Dr. Altaf Hussain has declared the launch of the country’s first surgical skill laboratory on the hospital’s properties after the approval of its board of governors.
The state-of-the-art lab will be intended for the teaching, education and training of medical students, teachers, and also surgeons of all subspecialty domains. Students will receive hands-on surgical training from surgeons at the new surgical skill laboratory.
Professor Dr. Altaf announced the decision during the launching ceremony of the 5th Rhinocon Conference by the Society of Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery held at the auditorium of the PIMS Mother and Child Hospital. The ceremony was joined by a huge number of ENT (ear, nose, and throat) experts from the twin cities Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In accordance with the head of the PIMS ENT department, who is also a key member of the Rhinocon Conference organizing committee, the moot will be conducted on October 15 and 16 at Serena Hotel to offer partakers the unique opportunity to boost their knowledge and update themselves with the modern advances in the areas of rhinology and skull base surgery.
While updating about the conferences to be held, Professor Dr. Altaf said, “The conference will have workshops, live surgery sessions, one-on-one interaction of participants with the operating faculty, symposium, panel discussions, lectures, interactive sessions, and award sessions for residents and faculty, video and poster presentations for awards, and free paper and poster sessions.”
Moreover, the head of the PIMS ENT department said that the mega academic event would have lecturers from within the country as well as from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Europe, Iran, United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia.
