PCB deny claims PM Imran wants Azhar Ali replaced as Test captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied the rumors about Prime Minister Imran Khan not satisfied with Azhar Ali’s captaincy throughout England tour and that he wishes to change the test captain.

The rebuttal from PCB came after the story highlighted on many news channels that Wasim Akram who is a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board Committee, had complained to the Premier of Pakistan about Azhar Ali’s lack of leadership quality. Wasim Akram also blamed the test skipper for Pakistan’s defeat against England in Manchester and requested the removal of Azhar from captaincy.

Apart from Wasim Akram, a number of former cricketers and experts criticized Azhar Ali defensive approach a captain of the Pakistan Test team against England which resulted in a defeat despite being in the winning position.

Misbah & Azhar Likely to Get Show-Cause Notices over raising issues during a meeting with PM

The Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul Haq and Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali may be served with a show-cause notice from PCB for suggesting modifications in the domestic structure in a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to some sources, the officials from PCB were not delighted over Misbah, Hafeez and Azhar when players brought issues in the meeting. Misbah and Azhar at the moment are under PCB’s contract and expected to receive a show-cause notice while Hafeez who is no centrally contracted with the PCB may get away with it.

In a ceremony regarding PCB’s broadcasting deal with PTV Sports, the Premier spoke about the absence of competitiveness in departmental cricket. “I tried to explain to Misbah, Hafeez, and Azhar that the best players emerge when there is competitiveness. Australia is the most successful team in the world cricket and produces the best cricketers just because of the system”.
