PCB giving serious thought to replacing Misbah as head coach

PCB Misbah

After a poor show in New Zealand, the management and Pakistan cricket team came under massive pressure and now reports have emerged that the future of Misbah ul Haq as the head coach of the national team looks unclear as the think-tank of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated to search for ways to tackle the inadequacies of the team.

The defeat against New Zealand was the third consecutive defeat Pakistan cricket faced in the last 14 months.

The PCB has agreed to give serious consideration to Misbah’s potential involvement with the national side by assembling a meeting of the Cricket Committee within the next 10 days to ponder all possibilities.

“The Cricket Committee led by Salim Yousaf would evaluate the poor performance of the squad against Black Caps. As the recommendations of the committee are substantial, it will recommend what can be done for the team to execute better in the future”, according to an insider.

However, the final authority is the PCB chairman who will look at the recommendations and approve accordingly. The committee would also evaluate the coach’s performance. Yet, it is not certain that Misbah will be replaced before or after the series against South Africa which is due in 2 weeks.

According to sources, the chances are strong that a foreign coach may replace Misbah as head coach. However, to hire a foreign coach at least a month is required to follow all the PEPRA Rules.

For the head coach post, the potential candidates are Gary Kirsten and Andy Flower.

Misbah might appear before the PCB committee

For the past couple of days, Misbah has faced criticism about what some people call his deficiency of knowledge of coaching and failure to bring out the best from the players.

The former captain, along with some senior players, might be asked to appear before the committee.
