President Dr. Arif Alvi has granted approval for the withdrawal of the Curative Review Petition against the senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The decision was made on the advice of the Prime Minister, under Article 48 (1) of the Constitution.
The Curative Review Petition against Justice Qazi Faez Isa was filed by the federal government, challenging the Supreme Court’s decision to quash a presidential reference against the judge. Justice Isa had been accused of not disclosing the assets of his wife and children, a charge which he denies.
In addition to this, President Alvi has signed the “Lawyers’ Welfare and Protection Bill 2023” into law, under Article 75 of the Constitution. The bill aims to ensure the welfare and protection of lawyers, including providing them with financial assistance, health insurance, and legal aid.
