PTA decides to unblock TikTok in Pakistan

TikTok in Pakistan

On Monday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that TikTok is going to be unblocked “after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality.”

The PTA tweeted, “TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality.
TikTok will moderate the account in accordance with local laws.”

TikTok the 3rd most installed application following Facebook and WhatsApp in Pakistan, was blocked on 9th October due to immoral and indecent content production on the platform. PTA at that time issued strict notice against such activities on TikTok and gave the application “considerable time to respond and comply with” instructions for the development of an effective mechanism for proactive moderation of “unlawful online content”.

However, on Saturday, The Chinese social media giant TikTok issued a cryptic statement that called to lift the ban from the application in return for a vague assurance centered on the “allocation of resources” to the Pakistani market.

“If the Government of Pakistan decides to reopen access to our services in the future, we will certainly assess our allocation of resources to this market,” the carefully worded statement said.

Moreover, this app was the 3rd most installed app in the country and has been installed 43 million times in Pakistan with 14.7 million of those coming in the year 2020 alone. But the platform was seen getting out of hands when the production of indecent content was reached at peak even after many warnings.

This Chinese application has taken Pakistani youth into earning ways. Many youngsters earned from this platform through their acting skills, products’ advertisements had also started when the app was banned but now it is again being unbanned and Youngsters seem super excited.
