PTI senator Azam Swati was arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) during the early hours of Sunday after a case was registered against him for making controversial tweet against senior military officials. He was taken into custody from his Farm house in Chak Shehzad on Sunday morning.
Sources reported that Senator was arrested for using foul language against army chief and other senior military officers. Taking to Twitter, Azam Swati hurled cuss at outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and used offensive language against Major General Faisal Naseer. The PTI senator threatened Major General Faisal Naseer that he would have to pay the price.
“I Will go against Major General Faisal Naseer at every platform. I will use every legal and moral forum against him” the senator said in a tweet. The statement was condemned by Faisal Karim Kundi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on poverty alleviation and social safety. “The aim of such statements is to please the enemy state” said the SAPM. He further said that PTI Leader could only talk on social media. He added, “If he has any evidence then he should bring it out and if it holds water then we are standing by him”.
PTI Senator was arrested last month by FIA from his home in Islamabad and was presented before court. This is the second time Swati has been arrested for his controversial statement he has made on October 13.

“FIA officer Ayaz is my culprit I don’t want to see him here” said the Senator while talking to FIA team during the arrest.
The Senator also said that he finished his speech and came back home, further saying that he is not a fugitive and that he did not go to Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KP). He spoke in favour of his party saying that his party came out in favour of rule of law and against oppression. Swati added that he was ready to go the police station himself because the right way was followed. “But this is not a way that they torture and undress after the arrest”, he added. After recording his stand the Senator then left with FIA team.
“I am shocked and appalled at how rapidly we are descending into not just a banana republic, but a Fascist state. How can anyone not understand the pain and suffering Senator Swati underwent with custodial torture and blackmailing video of him and his wife sent to his family?” said chairman Imran Khan in response to Swati’s arrest. PTI General Secretary Asad Umar tweeted about the incident saying, “The dignified manner in which Azam Swati conducted himself as he was arrested today shows he is fighting for a principle. You can disagree with his choice of words or even his view, but you can not disagree with him that whatever happens must do so within ambit of law”
Former human rights minister Shireen Mazari said that Sawati has been knocking at Supreme Court’s door to seek justice, but to no avail.
Azam Khan Swati remained in the custody of FIA for 10 days during the last month when he was arrested for the first time on October 13 and was granted bail on October 22 by the District and session Court in Islamabad.
