In a solemn observance of the national Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan (Martyrs Reverence Day), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered an impassioned address, referencing the disconcerting events of May 9. The Prime Minister expressed his sentiments on Twitter, offering profound tributes to the nation’s martyrs and reiterating unwavering support for their kin.
Sharif suggested that the May 9 occurrences weren’t simply a violent protest, but a sinisterly contrived strategy. He expressed his disconcertion at the incidents, which left the country in shock and disbelief, reflecting on the extent some individuals would go for power.
Drawing a poignant picture, Sharif criticized the destruction of Shuhada’s monuments and attacks on state symbols. He condemned these acts as attacks on Pakistan’s ethos and identity, giving adversaries a reason for mirth.
Reflecting on the events of May 9, the Prime Minister framed them as a crucial warning. He stressed the importance of distinguishing between those committed to fortifying Pakistan and those seeking to debilitate it.

The blood of these martyrs is the bedrock upon which Pakistan was built, a marvel of the 20th century,” he declared.
The countrywide observance of Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan honored those who gave their lives for the country’s protection. A ceremony at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada (memorial for martyrs) at the Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) was attended by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, former COAS Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, and others. The event, which began with the arrival of Gen Munir, included Quran recitations and a speech celebrating the martyrs’ memory.
