The construction of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT) Karachi is underway as per the schedule and the facility will be opened in December 2022.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan shared recent pictures of the under-construction building of SKMT Karachi. Taking to Twitter, the prime minister said cancer hospital will be “twice the size of SKMT Lahore, and “will be equipped with all the latest diagnostic and treatment facilities”.
He wrote, “The Karachi SKMT construction is going according to schedule and is all set to open inshaAllah by Dec next year. This will be twice as big as the Lahore SKMT and will be equipped with state of the art equipment.”

On April 28, it was stated that SKMT had become a model institution, delivering high-quality care to all patients regardless of their socioeconomic situation.
Earlier, the premier had said that SKMT in Karachi will be the biggest and the most modern hospital in Pakistan. He shared pictures of the construction on his Twitter, the PM said that the work on the basement of the hospital is proceeding at a good pace after a slowdown during the coronavirus crisis.
“This will inshaAllah be the biggest SKMT hospital and the most modern in Pakistan.”
Foundation of SKMT hospital in Karachi
In 2016, the PM laid the foundation of the Karachi hospital. The construction for the hospital began last year in November which is being constructed in Defense. The new hospital will make comprehensive cancer care accessible for low-income patients across Sindh. The SKMT has established a number of hospitals, laboratories, and research centers across Pakistan.
Last year, PM said that he had this great feeling watching construction start on SKMT Karachi. He added that it would be the biggest cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as being equipped with the latest machines.
