In a concerning incident, twenty female students from a government school in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were hospitalized after ingesting water believed to be contaminated with a poisonous substance.
Preliminary reports indicate that the water tank at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Jandri may have unintentionally been tainted with a hazardous substance, causing the water to become unsafe for drinking. Following consumption, the health conditions of the students rapidly deteriorated, necessitating immediate medical attention. Doctors have since confirmed that the students are out of critical danger.
In response to the incident, the school administration acted swiftly to procure a water sample from the tank for laboratory examination to identify the contaminating substance. Additional information is expected following a detailed investigation.
Deputy Commissioner Karak, Ahmad Zeib, was promptly alerted about the situation and directed Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Karak Younis Khan and Additional Assistant Commissioner One Karak Shamimullah to evaluate the situation on the ground.

Rescue 1122 effectively addressed the emergency by providing immediate first aid to the affected students and ensuring their safe transportation to the district headquarters hospital. The hospital administration has reported a significant improvement in the health of the majority of the girls, and most are ready to be discharged.
The hospital’s initial report suggests that nearly 95 percent of the patients, who were admitted with gastrointestinal issues, have shown signs of recovery. Deputy Commissioner Karak has initiated a thorough investigation into the incident by constituting an inquiry committee, headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner. The committee is expected to meticulously review all factors related to this disquieting episode.
