In 1975, the university began operations in rented buildings with eight departments. The university now has a large campus with sixty departments and several constituent colleges, including University Gilani Law College and Multan College of Arts, as well as faculties such as Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Science, and (formerly University College of Agriculture or UCA), Engineering, and Technology.
Residential facilities for students and employees are also available at the university.
The Bahauddin Zakariya University is a general university that offers arts and science education. Because agriculture is the region’s staple, the location and climate are ideal.
Its environs produce the best silver crop (cotton) in the country, as well as fruit crops like mangoes, oranges, and dates, hence it was deemed necessary to train there.

In July of 1999, the Technology Center was formed in
Computer Science Department. Telecommunication System BS and MSc programmes began in January 2004. In the fall of 2004, B.Sc. Mechanical, Computer, Textile, Agricultural, and Architectural Engineering programmes began.
HEC recognises all university degrees, PEC recognises engineering degrees, and PCP recognises pharmacy degrees.

The university is around 10 kilometres from the city centre. The main campus is 960 acres in size. Its back gate, which is 6 kilometres from Chowk Kmharanwala.

Student admissions:-
For the autumn semester, student admissions are normally held in August and September. Admissions for M.Phil. and online learning programmes are open in January and February.
This is the spring semester. Some departments require GAT, while others have their own testing requirements. Engineering admissions are based on academic merit. Students are allocated seats on a merit basis by taking examinations, while departments that do not take tests, such as undergraduate degree programmes, are assigned numbers based on their intermediate and other academic achievements.

The University has a wide selection of programmes to choose from: M.A., M.Sc., MBA, M.Com., MCS, M.Phil, and Ph.D. Additionlly, in recent years, the University has taken a lead in introducing 4-Year Undergraduate programs in Science, Commerce, Business, Pharmacy, Engineering, and English Literature and Linguistics.
